LGA Childhood Obesity Systems Map

Description

How do councils tackle systemic health issues collectively? Childhood obesity isn’t just a health issues - it’s a systems problem. Councils faced fragmented efforts, unable to scale local solutions. The challenge: How do we design interventions that don’t just treat symptoms but transform the conditions that create them? Approach • Designed and facilitated a learning assembly, enabling councils to share stories, best practices, and failures - turning fragmented knowledge into group genius. • Delivered tailored capability building sessions, introducing systems thinking, participatory design and research methodologies adapted to each council’s unique problem area. • Supported councils in prototyping and scaling adaptive best-practice models and designs that focussed on sustainability, collaboration and local ownership. Impact • Created a shared vision across councils, transforming siloed health interventions into collaborative, systemic action. • Embedded adaptive governance practices that enabled councils to respond to local needs while aligning with national strategies. • Fostered a culture of experimentation and learning, ensuring child obesity strategies could evolve with shifting communities.
